The English School Curriculum

1st Year

The 1st Year curriculum is principally an intensive English as a Second Language programme for native speakers of Greek to bring them up to a level of fluency which will enable them to follow the school curriculum in English from the 2nd Year onwards. The curriculum also includes Greek, Math, Science, Geography, History, Music, Religious Instruction, PSE and Games; Art, Technology and Computing are taught on a modular basis for part of the year.

2nd and 3rd Years

From this point on the curriculum is delivered entirely in English except for classes in Greek and Religious Instruction. French is introduced as a Modern Foreign Language and all the 1st Year subjects continue.

4th and 5th Years

These two years offer a programme of courses leading to the International GCSE qualification. Every student must take English Language and English Literature, Mathematics and Greek. A further four optional subjects are chosen from an extensive list which currently includes Biology, Chemistry, Physics (at least one science must be studied); History and Geography (at least one must be studied); Economics, French, Art, Computing and Design & Technology. In addition to these examination subjects, all students continue to study PSE, Art, Music and Computing on a modular basis and to participate in Games.

6th and 7th Years

At this stage each student constructs an individual programme of AS and A2 level courses from a very wide range of alternatives. All students study five AS subjects in the 6th Year and carry on with four of them to A2 level in the 7th Year. The school operates a very flexible options system and makes a considerable effort to accommodate the combinations of subjects chosen by students. In addition there is a programme of supporting courses including Games, Community service and University and Careers advice.

Subjects currently offered at AS/A2 level are:

Biology; Chemistry; Physics; Mathematics (Pure and Statistics or Pure and Mechanics); Modern Greek; Ancient Greek, Classical Civilisation; English Literature; History; Geography; Business Studies; Economics; French; Art; Design and Technology; Computer Studies (AS only)

Full details of the courses available are given to parents at the appropriate stage in their child's school career; meetings are held at the school to give advice upon options, careers and university choice.
