Headmaster's welcome

On the pages of this website, you will learn about a truly remarkable school - our school. Our school is remarkable for many reasons: it is the living, breathing embodiment of the vision of its founder, Canon Frank Darvall Newham, which apart from academic achievement also valued the development of team-spirit, mutual respect and a sense of responsibility to oneself and to others.  Our school is the legacy of those who shared Canon Newham’s value of education and his love of this beautiful island and its inspiring, gifted people. Our school is also remarkable for not only surviving but, indeed, prospering, throughout the twentieth century. The school has made its unique way through the many challenges of history, thanks in no small part to those who have cared deeply about it for decades.  You can read about that story elsewhere on these pages.

Today, in the second decade of the twenty first century, the school is no less remarkable: we are as committed as ever to the mission of academic excellence and you can find details of our impressive record of examination results at IGCSE and A level and our exceptional track record of securing admission for our students at the very best Russell Group universities.  Beyond this, we have also embraced a no less important mission of inclusion for all the students, whatever their cultural background, fortunate enough to gain admission.

English School students past and present are proud to call this school theirs, and I am proud and honoured to be its Headmaster.  We are always available for more information about our School and why we are proud to be members of the English School family.
