November 9 marked the 70th anniversary of the establishment of British camps for Jewish survivors of the Holocaust.  The School was asked to perform at a moving ceremony commemorating the historic event and the 2,200 Jewish children born in Cyprus between 1946 and 1949.

Defense Minister Fokaides, foreign and Cypriot dignitaries, Israeli officials and members of the Jewish community attended the event at the former British Military Hospital in Nicosia. In her speech, Israeli Ambassador to Cyprus Ms. Yael Ravia-Zadok said that in Judaism there is a saying that whoever has saved a single soul, has saved the world. “Throughout the course of these days of 1946-1949, there were many Cypriots who stretched their hands, opened their hearts, took a risk and indeed saved many Jewish souls, and thus saved the world,” she said.

The students involved were Emre Beidoglu, Valerios Athinodorou, Alexandra Kassinis, Sophia Patsalides and Garen Zartarian.

Well done to them for representing the school and for their excellent performance.
