The English School team KLAK Robotics won first place at the FIRST Lego League (FLL) International Open Championship at Bath, UK, in the category of Core Values - Inspiration.

93 national champions from all over the world represented their countries at this event which took place between 21-25 June, 2017. KLAK Robotics is the first Cypriot FLL team to be awarded a distinction at an international level.
FLL is an annual competition that takes place in over 80 countries with participation by over 32,000 teams of middle school students. Participants have to build and program an autonomous robot, do a science project and improve their local communities. This year’s challenge theme was ‘Animal Allies’, so students had to design a solution that improves the interaction between humans and animals. The KLAK team studied the snakes of Cyprus, and built an autonomous robot using the LEGO Mindstorms kit. KLAK's robot, named ALBERT, ranked 27th out of 93 in robot performance.

The team, consisting of Alexandra Kassinis (4B), Andreas Lordos (4J), Nikolas Antoniou (4J) and Erricos Koutsokoumnis (4B), has already received approval from the School and funding from ESPA to found the English School Robotics Club. The Club will start meetings in September, 2017.
