The English School was the first to introduce The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award to Cyprus, following the suggestion of the newly appointed Headmaster Mr David H. Humphreys in September 1968. This year therefore marks the 50 Year Anniversary of the Award at our school. Interestingly, our school is the oldest Independent Award Centre in the world. To commemorate this milestone in the long and distinguished history of the Award at the school, a special display has been set up outside the library showing a timeline of all the articles written on the Award in the school magazines since 1968.

On this timeline, amongst several articles and photos from the 50 Year history of the Award at the school, you can see a photo of the first Gold Awardees of the school in 1971, who we took great pleasure in welcoming back to our school last June, during the Award 50th Anniversary Celebration and Presentation Ceremony. You can also see photos from the Duke of Edinburgh’s visit to the school in October 1993, an article on the millennium monument which was built by Award participants in 2000 outside the IT department, as well as an article written by one of the first Gold Awardees for the 2018 school magazine
