The English School 2018 Graduate Wins Prestigious Oxford University Essay Prize!
We are extremely proud to announce the achievement of one of our recent graduates. Ibrahim Ince (ESL2018) has been awarded the Mary Renault essay prize by St Hugh’s College Oxford.
This essay competition is in memory of the famous classicist Mary Renault and Ibrahim brought together his GCE studies of Classical Civilisation and English Literature in his winning essay. In his own words, ’ I have explored the impact of Classical Greece in Eliot's and Waterhouse's works and how both artists look back at their past to better understand their societal and psychological state.’ His essay title is as follows:
Classical Greece; an era of gloriousness or the genesis of corruption inherent in humanity? Explore Eliot’s literary and Waterhouse’s visual depiction of classicism and myth.

Ibrahim has taken up a place in Fine Art at the University of Leeds where we are sure he will continue to integrate his understanding of the Classical World, and key literary texts, into his work as an artist. We wish him every future success!
