This year has seen some stunning academic performance by our students, supported
and guided by their dedicated teachers. In particular, the 99% A*/ A performance of
our IGCSE Mathematics students is to be applauded. From a cohort of 161 students,
who sat the exam at the end of their Year 4 , in May 2012, 151 achieved A*, 9 students
achieved grade A ,and 1 achieved grade B. It is hard to imagine where else in the world
such results could be replicated! 97% of students who sat IGCSE Greek achieved A*-A
and 100% of students who sat O level Turkish achieved A*-A!
At AS level our students’ success continued. 100% of Spanish candidates achieved grade
A or B, 91% of Art candidates achieved grade A or B, 88% of French and Design Tech-
nology candidates achieved A or B. At A2 level, 81% of our students achieved A* or A
in Classical Greek, 59% of our candidates achieved A* or A in Biology. These are truly
outstanding results but there are many other excellent results across the broad range
of subjects offered by the school, as can be evidenced by a closer look at the table at-
tached.
Our outstanding academic results have also been recognised by the UK performance
analysis tool, ALPS, (Advanced Level Performance Systems.) This tool is used by 1,251
schools and colleges in the UK . Based on the analysis of our data, The English School is
placed in the top 5% of UK secondary education institutions in terms of our students’
academic performance.
Other external recognition of our students’ success has come through the Edexcel High
Achiever Awards. The award ceremony took place in Limassol in December and the fol-
lowing students were recognised for their truly exceptional achievement. Please note
