An extremely important item whilst you are at school and it will reflect a student’s general
attitude and approach to school.
To students in Years 1 and 2
THE USE OF THE STUDENT HANDBOOK
For better academic performance and good organisation skills
Our target is
to train the juniors to be more careful with the use of their Handbook, thus
continue the efficiency in upper Years too.
Monitoring of Student Handbooks
Form Tutor, Head of Year, Assistant Head (Pastoral)
. On a regular basis Form
Tutors will be checking that all students have their Handbook in school and are
using it. This will be monitored by the Head of Year.
Student Self-Monitoring with the help of the Form Tutor.
Students will be
encouraged and guided to reflect upon their own school performance; in other
words, to ensure that student self-monitoring is central to the weekly operation of
the Student Handbook. With this in mind it is essential that a reasonable amount
of time is given by the Form Tutor to allow students to reflect upon their
performance in school and to do regular self-assessment.
Parental Monitoring
Parents and guardians will also have a key role in monitoring
their child’s Handbook. Most importantly it is expected that parents will
encourage their children to keep the Handbook clean and up to date, support the
habit of completing homework in an organised and efficient manner, and use the
appropriate Parents’ Section to communicate with the school.
The Contents of the Student Handbook
The front cover of the Student Handbook should be kept clean and tidy. It must be kept
as if it were a best exercise book. Students whose Handbooks are not of the required
standard will be asked to replace them.
Lost Student Handbooks will need to be immediately replaced.
On those days the Form Tutor checks whether the students have their Handbooks with
them, students who have not brought their Student Handbook should be immediately
referred to their Head of Year.
It must be emphasised that forgetting the Student Handbook is extremely serious.
