Another academic year has gone by and the focus of the Team has not changed: to
support and guide our students to reach their full potential, enhance their overall
education as well as their personal and social development and overall well-being.
Our aim has always been to equip our students with the right life skills, qualifications
and practical knowledge in order to help them lead confident, happy and healthy
lives, while respecting and caring for the environment and the people around them.
The members of the Pastoral Team have worked as a team and as individuals in a
professional and caring way with individual students and parents. From the very
first day - Administration Day - all students were encouraged by their FTs to refer ei-
ther to their end-of-year report or external exam results and set short and long
term targets for the new year. The new students in Year 1 were involved in team
building activities with their Head of Year and Form Tutors. These students as well
as late entry students into other Year groups were welcomed to the school and a
whole/or part of the morning was dedicated to induction with the help of other
students. Other activities too have been organised for junior students by their Head
of Year and Form Tutors during the course of the year on and off campus, including
charity activities.
The school counsellor has offered additional support and guidance to those stu-
dents who might have been facing some more challenging situations. We are hop-
ing to develop the counsellor’s role and thus offer more counselling time to more
students in the near future.
This year the profile of the role of the school nurse has been raised. She has worked
very effectively with the Pastoral Team on a very systematic basis over cases of
health concerns including psychological challenges. The nurse has been communi-
cating with parents and a formal system of gathering health concerns information
has been built. She has also cooperated with the Pastoral Team in the delivery of
some additional PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) lessons for junior classes.
This will further develop next year by delivering such lessons to more classes.
More PSHE work was also delivered by members of the Pastoral Team during as-
sembly time, on themes like study skills, setting targets, alcohol, smoking, anger
management, family values, respect, rights and responsibilities, etc. A number of
outside professionals, friends of the school to whomwe are very grateful, have also
contributed to this: presentations / workshops were held by doctors, psychologists
and other professionals on health issues e.g. smoking, healthy habits, firework haz-
ards, male health issues, breast cancer, dental care, addictive substances, and on
issues such as cyber bullying, safety on the internet as well as energy conservation.
The Pastoral Team and other members of staff have received training on basic coun-
selling skills, learning difficulties as well as on other topics including eating disor-
ders thus equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to deal with our
young people. The nurse has also delivered training to staff on allergies and other
health issues .
Our communication with parents has extended this year. A number of constructive
meetings has taken place between parents / students (facing some challenging ac-
ademic and / or personal issues) and members of the Pastoral Team. We also held
