On Thursday 12th October 2017 volunteers from Cy.R.C came to our school during period 3, 4 and 2nd Break.  70 students had the opportunity to learn how to help re-start the heart of a person after a heart attack.

Cy.R.C is a non-profit organization and was founded with the basic aim of improving and assuring the quality and effectiveness of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in our country.
Cy.R.C has a scientific co-operation agreement with the European Resuscitation Council, which is the relevant scientific body for these issues in the European Union.

Cy.R.C has among others the following objectives:

Conducting conferences, workshops and seminars on education in cardiopulmonary rejuvenation.

Continuous contact with the European Resuscitation Council (ERC), promotion of research, publication of guidelines and recommendations for effective resuscitation.

Monitoring the international developments in Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and informing its members and the public.

Providing advice and opinions to the state and other relevant stakeholders on all issues and problems related to CPR.

The Cy.R.C aims in educating as many young people as possible on how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

At present, less than one in ten (10%) survive in Cyprus than a cardiac arrest. Cy.R.C want to work with our young in Cyprus to change this rate. If we achieved the same survival rates (25%) as found in parts of Norway where CARD is taught in schools, an additional 100 lives could be saved each week across Europe.

The presentation was delivered by Cardiologist Dr. Petros Petrou (old boy of the school) and a member of the paramedic's team of the General Hospital. The presentation started with a theoretical lesson on how to perform CPR and how to use the external defbrillator, then students had the chance to practice on models.
Our students were very keen to learn.
