Year 1 students spent the first part of the Spring term learning about Chinese New Year and the pentatonic scale.
In pairs, students made up their own compositions using the pentatonic scale and a drone – a small selection can be seen on the video. All of our year 1 composers are to be congratulated for their creative pieces and good teamwork.
The students featured are:
Eleni Stavrou, Constantinos Kyriakides 1Y, India Olympia Pattichis, Andreas Eleftheriades 1J, Eirini Charmpi, Stylianos Vasiliades 1R, Doruk Kara, Soteriana Andreou 1B, Maria Theofanous, Alexandros Argyrou 1G, Kleopatra Constantinou, Stavros Vafeas 1W
5 Reasons to use the pentatonic scale:
1. There are five notes instead of the usual 7.
2. Drones work very well with pentatonic melodies.
3. A lot of popular music is based on the pentatonic scale.
4. It’s easy to come up with catchy ideas.
5. Pentatonic scales are essential for guitar, piano and all instruments.
