Educational Day Trip to Larnaca
This week a group of 15,000 scientists from 184 countries have warned of the negative environmental trends that are threating human wellbeing and causing irreversible damage to the Earth. This is not the first time they have done so; in 1992 they issued their first warning. Twenty-five years later, they are back with an article signed by everyone at BioScience magazine, which you can read at the following link: World Scientists’ Warning to Humanity: A Second Notice.
One of our targets is to raise students’ awareness of environmental change. Our young students in Year 2 have already had opportunities to discuss and have had a workshop on this theme during their PSHCE lessons.
To further support this awareness, we are planning on taking all Year 2 students to clean the Beach at Faros area in Pervolia, with the help of AKTI Project and Research Centre. We will be led by an external professional, Ms Xenia Loizidou, the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of AKTI. Upon cleaning up the beach, students will also categorise the rubbish collected. At about 11:15 am we will proceed for brunch at Mackenzie Beach, were our students will relax and bond. Our students will get more information from their Head of Year, Ms Elena Chrysanthou, and Form Tutor on the details of the day.
Immediately after registration on that day, the students will get on the buses, accompanied by members of the Pastoral Team. Please advise the children to wear comfortable clothes, closed shoes, hats and sun block. They will also need to have with them a water bottle, a pair of disposable gloves and a plastic supermarket bag, as AKTI will only be providing one set of gloves per student. We are planning on returning to Nicosia by 13:20 pm. The transportation costs will be EUR5. Students should also bring with them a maximum of EUR10 for brunch.
Please fill in the attached Parental Consent Form and return it, along with the EUR5, to your child’s Form Tutor by Monday, 8th April 2019.
