Update regarding Teaching and Learning during the Coronavirus Crisis

Dear Parents / Guardians,

As you are aware, the school will remain closed until at least the 20th March. The purpose of writing to you today is to highlight some points which should improve aspects of online learning for your child.

Timetabled classes from Monday, 16th March – All classes will follow the school timetable from this date, a register of attendance will be taken for every lesson as we closely monitor student attendance and participation. Members of the pastoral team will be in touch with your child this week to discuss any issues they may have regarding online learning and general wellbeing.

Remaining Mock Examinations for Year 6 and 7 – All remaining examinations will be forwarded to students today for completion during the weekend. Students should scan and send their responses to teachers. In some cases, such as for essay writing subjects, students may find it easier to email their teachers their answers in a word document.

Online learning – Our aim is to continue with syllabus delivery as planned, to complete syllabi in good time and to undertake a detailed review of past papers with examination classes. Your child can facilitate their learning by regular communication with teachers eg – emailing questions before/after lessons, asking for additional/alternative resources, scanning and sending work they have completed or asking for individual support outside of timetabled lessons. In difficult times such as these, communication is more important than ever.
We have noticed some issue with younger students who have seen the introduction of online learning as a novelty rather than a necessity. We will adapt some of our teaching methodologies to respond to this, however, we need your continued support to ensure that the learning environment is conducive to progress. Please discuss this with your child as you continue to talk to them about their learning. If you have any concerns about progress or the wellbeing of your child, do not hesitate to contact subject teachers, form tutors or Head of Year.

Queries – If you have any IT related issues regarding online learning, please contact the School’s IT department email: demetris.souroullas@englishschool.ac.cy.

Please continue to be assured that we will do everything we can to support your child through this difficult period and your continued support is much appreciated.

Yours Faithfully,
David Lambon
Headmaster
