What draws me most to the US is the liberal arts curriculum they offer, which gives
students the freedom to shape their own college experience, as students only need
to declare their major in their second year. At the moment, I’m planning on majoring in
either Art & Archaeology (visual arts track) or Computer Science (focusing on design)
and going into either Artificial Intelligence, graphic design, or virtual reality design. At
first, applying to the US seemed like a daunting, endless task of personal essays to
write and forms to fill in, and I had no idea where to start. Researching each university’s
curriculum structure and student culture really helped me pinpoint which universities
matched up with what I’m looking for, as well as figuring out their financial aid policies
for international applicants. The main piece of advice I’d give to students considering
applying to the US is to start as early as you can, and don’t underestimate yourself!

Hi, I am Varol and I will be studying at the University of Amsterdam. The
application process for Amsterdam was fairly easy, however, it wasn’t as easy as
applying through UCAS. When applying to a university in the Netherlands you must 13
first register with Studielink and then continue your application via the universities
own application system; they will ask you to submit documents such as A-Level
predictions, IGCSE grades and your CV. I chose to study in the Netherlands and
specifically Amsterdam because of the historic waterfront buildings and famous
parks. Amsterdam is also packed with culture and events, meaning you will never
be bored. The University of Amsterdam is a very good university ranked 55th in the
world (QS ranking) which means that you will get to live in one of the best-loved
and most-visited European capitals and study at one of the top universities in
Europe. I hope I see you in Amsterdam!
