Teaching Objectives

The objectives of the department directly relate to the aims of the department.
 
Students should understand the characteristics and the properties of a range of materials, in particular, paper, card, wood, metals and plastics. They should be able to manipulate these materials using the appropriate tools, equipment, techniques and processes in order to produce the desired solution.
Students should be aware of the health and safety requirements while working with certain materials, tools, equipment and processes. These must also be considered when designing and when they are analyzing products.
 
They should be able to generate ideas using problem solving techniques in response to a range of problems using a variety of techniques, including where possible, CAD.
 
To be able to draw upon a range of information in order to help them generate and develop viable solutions to problems.
 
To understand the significance of Design and Technology both past and present.
 
Experience a range of activities during the course, which may be classified as individual or group work.
 
They must be able to organize their work and follow a set plan, as well as completing work to deadlines.
