The English School offers a diverse range of inclusive extracurricular opportunities to meet students' academic, social, and creative needs.
In Year 1, students are guided by tutors and peers to choose activities at the annual Activities Fair in September, with the flexibility to join or switch activities throughout the year. Junior activities are inclusive and open to all students, focusing on interest and willingness to try. As students progress, activities become more challenging, often led by senior students who coach and mentor juniors or initiate programs themselves.
Our Afternoon Games program encourages junior students to compete in House sports, with professional coaching provided by PE staff. We are proud of students who train at both local and national levels.
In Creative and Performing Arts, junior students can join in schoolwide opportunities, including a music instrumental program offering 1:1 lessons on various instruments and some scholarships.
Our students and teachers work together to create lasting memories and growth opportunities that go beyond the classroom, driven by shared passion and commitment.
Aims and Ethos
The extracurricular program supports our school’s values and vision, enhancing students’ development through experiences beyond academics. Key principles include:
- We encourage students to contribute as global citizens in the spirit of our motto, “non sibi sed scholae.”
- Promoting inclusivity, with activities open to all students within age-appropriate limits.
- Expecting students to participate in at least one after-school activity fosters responsibility and growth.
Policy
The School’s ambitious extracurricular program enriches education and supports personal growth. We aim to provide opportunities for students to:
- Take responsibility, work in teams, face challenges, gain new skills, and grow physically and creatively.
- Engage fairly in activities, with unbiased selection for those that require it.
- Participate in at least one activity, challenging themselves and aspiring to their full potential.
Positive engagement is recognized, with committed staff honored as ECA Champions. The ECA program is managed by the SLT-appointed committee, which reviews and supports proposals for new activities. We value partnerships with parents and external organizations to enrich the school experience, prioritizing health, safety, and safeguarding.
Code of Conduct for Extracurricular Activities and Athletics
Our Code of Conduct upholds respect, integrity, and sportsmanship in all extracurricular activities. Student-athletes and participants are expected to:
- Show respect and self-control towards officials, spectators, and other participants.
- Engage opponents respectfully and abide by game rules.
- Accept victory with grace and defeat with dignity, representing The English School with pride.
Student Responsibilities in Extracurriculars
- Aim to achieve my best in all endeavours.
- Inspire and encourage my peers.
- Stand up for what is right, even under peer pressure.
- Respect school and personal property.
- Respond respectfully to faculty and staff.
- Take responsibility for my attitude and behaviour.
Through commitment to these values, students contribute positively to a supportive and respectful school environment.
