Art & Design - 4th & 5th Form

Art at this level is open to all pupils. It is believed that all pupils have the ability and can benefit from such a varied and individualistic based course.
Art & Design is a lesson that has played a major role in the culture and the development of human spirit from ancient times.

Art emphasises the importance to cultivate non verbal thoughts and ideas. Some pupils may find it equally, or more fulfilling to express themselves in visual terms.
The written or spoken word may not be the ideal method of communication for all pupils to express some concepts and ideas and may find it easier in the world of Art.
The Art & Design course in the 4th and 5th form leads to an exam at the of the second year for an O Level in Art and Design.

Over the two year course students will become familiar with various materials and methods of working so as to enrich their technical ability. The course work consists of studio based drawing, painting, printmaking and three-dimensional work, as well as opportunities to visit galleries.
There is no formal written component of the course, althought studying the work of other artists is integrated into all practical work. Ideas and processes are developed through the use of sketchbooks and work journals.
