Founders Day Prize Criteria

Chemistry
The aim of the Departmental policy is to reward academic excellence, special effort or exceptional talent in such a way as to promote the raising of standards.

Year  4

Award for academic excellence assessed in the following way:
 
 Grade  Points  Effort Points
 A*  10  1  10
A  9  2  8
 A-  8  3  6
  B+  7    
B  6    
 
*  Pupils with a C grade or a 4 effort should be excluded.
*  The points total from the three reports and end-of-year exam mark should be used to      
    decide the recipient of the award.
           *  If there is more than one pupil with the same or similar score (e.g. 1 mark difference) the
               Department may award more than one prize.
 
           Award for special effort or exceptional talent
 
            Nominations to be made by members of the Department. These should be discussed at a    
            Departmental meeting and a consensus arrived at with the reasoning behind the decision
            being clearly recorded.
 

Year  5

Award for academic excellence assessed in the following way:

(i)   Christmas Report      
  
 Grade  Points  Effort  Points
 A*  10  1  10
A  9  2  8
 A-  8  3  6
 B+  7    
B  6    
            
(ii) Mock Report
All predictions should be "G."
The mock exam mark should be added to the totals of the Christmas Report.
 
           This has the advantage of increasing the value of the mock process.
 
(iii)  External Exam Performance
The UMS at the relevant level should be added to the internal marks.
The total of (i), (ii), (iii) should determine the recipient of the academic award.

Award for special effort or exceptional talent  as for Year  4.
 

Year  6

Award for academic excellence assessed in the following way:

(i)   Christmas Report 
 
 Grade  Points  Effort            Points
A  10  1  10
 A-  9  2  8
  B+  8  3  6
B  7    
 B-  6  
 

(ii) Mock Report
All predictions should be "G."
The mock exam mark should be added to the totals of the Christmas Report.
