The goal of the Society is to instill environmental awareness within the English School community. It tries to do so in a number of ways. A significant achievement of the Society has been the introduction of a school-wide recycling effort, starting in 2008, which leads to the weekly collection of PMD and paper disposed of in classrooms, offices and the school yard. It is the Society’s objective to continue to cultivate environmental awareness throughout the School.
The Society takes an annual trip to Akamas, usually together with the Economics Society members. This gives the students the chance to explore the beauties of the Cypriot countryside through nature walks and visits to parks. Quite recently, Society members carried out a tree-planting expedition to Saittas, (see photos below), after large areas were destroyed in a fire. The Society also organizes visits by guest speakers on environmental-related issues.
