Founder's Day Prize Criteria

There are currently 15 prizes allocated to the Music Department according to the following criteria.
Awarding of prizes will take place after consultation with as many of the music teachers as are involved.
GCSE prizes
  • Highest overall mark in previous June exam.
  • Highest mark achieved in composition coursework (if there is a tie, further differentiation will be used – originality, adherence to deadlines, quality of printed and written scores, or if deemed equal, both students will be awarded)
  • Highest mark achieved in Performing if different student to the other two awards.
 
Performance in extra curricular activities prizes
  • Senior Choir, Junior Choir, String Orchestra, Wind ensemble. Awards given to students in these groups for: contribution, attendance, teamwork skills, positive attitude, leadership. These qualities are valued higher than natural ability in chosen area.
Names are proposed by the teachers in charge and the final decision is made at a departmental meeting.
 
Class Music prizes
  • Junior (forms 1 – 3) for excellent assessed work during the year (written, composition, performing) participation in class projects, positive attitude, team work abilities.
 
  • GCSE first year– an award may be given to a student after one year of GCSE who displays excellent performing, compositional and listening skills as well as good attitude and teamwork and an excellent end of year exam the previous June.
 
Other prizes
  • Depending on the circumstances awards may be given to students who excel in another area of extracurricular music – notably in Talent Night, sound and light crew etc.These are also awarded at 7thform graduation.
