It is with great pleasure that we offer GSCE Music (Edexcel syllabus) for the first time.

Who can study GCSE Music?

This course will appeal to students who:
  • Take practical lessons in a musical instrument
  • Have a passion for improving their musical skills
  • Are keen to develop their creative talents in composition and performing

The Syllabus

There are three components:
  1. Paper 1 (30%) Performing (solo / group)
  2. Paper 2 (30%) Composition (2 pieces)
  3. Paper 3 (40%) Listening and Appraising (written - 1hr 30 mins)
Based on the four areas of study:
  1. Repetition and Contrast in Western Classical Music 1600 - 1899
  2. New Directions in Western Classical Music 1900 - present day
  3. Popular Song in Context
  4. Rhythms, scales and modes in music from around the world

Why study GCSE Music?

GCSE Music allows students to study music to a higher level than the traditional theory and practical examinations offered at the Music Conservatories. Theory and practical examination passes will be an asset to students taking GCSE.
