Talent Night

Talent Night was introduced into the schedule of formal concerts of the English School in 1995 and was a concert created to give all the students in the School the chance to show what they can do in terms of music (any kind), drama, poetry, dance and any other form of self-expression. This is not possible with the traditional Christmas and Spring Concerts.
It works in the following way:
  1. Approximately a month before the concert, which usually takes place at the end of November, the students register their participation and choice of genre
  2. Three weeks before the concert there are auditions and the best 15 - 20 performances are chosen for the Concert. The panel of judges come from the various sectors of the School and from outside the School and are invited by the Department. The judges usually have some connection with the arts.
  3. During the three weeks before the concert, the teacher in charge of the activity guides the students and rehearses with them preparing for the nights of the concert.
  4. The concert takes place on two consecutive nights.
  5. During the interval, it is customary to serve drinks.
  6. There are no prizes for this activity and the only competition lies in becoming eligible to participate in the formal concert. Later on however, when applying to universities, it is definitely a credit to have participated. Commendations may be given, but that is left to the discretion of the teacher in charge of the activity.
  7. As the desire is to have mostly students working for this concert, students throughout the School are asked to design the cover for the programme, or make posters advertising the event. The best design is chosen and the student's reward, apart from commendation, is to have his/her signature appear on the programme and/or poster.
