Extending The Subject Through The Life of The School

Biology students become aware and sensitive about issues such as healthy diet, food additives, effects of smoking, alcohol and drugs on health, infectious diseases, tooth decay, environmental pollution and conservation, cloning, genetic engineering, etc.  Thus they can apply their knowledge in their everyday life.
In the past, Year 7 students had the option of taking Environmental Topics in General Studies. Some of the topics included:
Pollution, deforestation, Akamas forest park, ecotourism, endangered species, endemic species, genetically modified foods, recycling, development of a school pond.
The department organises visits and lectures by specialists to make students aware of the various applications of Biology in everyday life. The spring term 2007 lectures organized were on Aviation Medicine and Plant-microbe Interactions.
