Aims & Objectives
Our aim is the development of a real interest in and love and enjoyment of Biology in the pupils, as well as providing an excellent academic grounding in an ordered environment.
Through the study of the subject, pupils should become aware of current issues in Biology and foster a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
Pupils considering tertiary education in Biology-related disciplines are advised and directed by the staff.
The scheme of work
The aims and objectives of the Biology Department are met through a variety of tasks and activities. Traditional classroom delivery of the lesson is combined with valuable discussions, written work in class and at home, projects, field trips, lectures, visits, etc.
An integral part of the teaching programme is practical work, which involves teacher demonstration as well as experiments carried out by the students themselves; these can vary from simple 'recipe' experiments to more sophisticated investigations planned and designed by the pupils under their teacher's guidance.
