Cranedale Experience
Following the highly successful Geography field trips to the UK since 2003, this has now been established as recommended but optional annual trip for AS Geography students.
The benefit to these students to work in one of the best Field Study Centers in the UK are immense. The students are offered 5 days of intensive academic learning experience preparing for their Applied Geographical Skills paper. We have to stress that this is a highly academic trip requiring long hours of input.
The Crandale Centre is much more than just a simple field study center .As an Ecocenter it teaches visiting students haw to respect their surrounding environments in a variety of practical ways .
The dates of the visit to Cranedale field study center in north Yorkshire usually coincide with the end of October Half Term in an attempt to minimize disruption to school life
The course units each last a day and may be slightly changed from year to year but usually the themes studied are.

- Woodland Ecosystems
- Urban studies, CBD activities
- Coastal Management
- Sand Dune Successions
- River studies/Management
- Microclimate

Departure from Cyprus is usually on the Monday morning flight to Manchester followed by a short 2hr bus ride to Crandale near York. Departure from the FSC in Yorkshire for Manchester to catch the late morning flight to Larnaca is always on Sunday morning.
COSTS: Total costs are very reasonable depending to some extent on number of students and final flight prices.
FLIGHTS: LCA/MAN, MAN/LCA
BUS DRIVE: Nicosia/Larnaca, Manchester to Yorkshire and back.
FSC COSTS: 6 days including tuition, accommodation, food and use of Centre facilities, transport and tutoring.
NOTE: There are very few other expenses only some pocket money as everything has been covered.
A small deposit is paid by mid May by the fifth form students intending to attend. This enables us to call in the students involved, hold a preliminary meeting, and brief them on other arrangements.
