Founder's Day Prize Criteria

Prizes can be given with a variety of parameters taken into account. The Term Academic Excellence is used to describe students with the highest end of year, or external exam % scores combined with top grades and effort throughout the year.

Other prizes may also be awarded. These could be prizes for exceptional ICT or computer based work, presentations, and project work or fieldwork contribution. These are not necessarily awarded every year.
Teachers within the department submit to the HOD the recommended names and relevant information. Discussion follows and lists finalised. Every attempt to have a consensus and agreement on the awards list is made. The final decision rests with the HOD.

For Academic Excellence the following criteria are followed in giving out the Founders Day Prizes.
1.       Roughly an even distribution of prizes from years 1 to 6 i.e. about 3 awards per year.
2.       In Years 5,6 the IGCSE and AS results (% scores) are used to give the prizes.(in case of a tie with numerical restrictions mock exam results and other information may be taken into account)
3.       For Years 1 -4 the End of Year Exam % results are used. The reason for using this is because in the absence of standardised testing, the exams are the only results which can be compared across all the groups and teaching sets.

In line with school policy, in addition to the founder’s day prizes, the department is planning to award departmental commendations.
